theatre is a rare commodity and shows like The Fox should be
grasped with both hands. More please." |

The Stage |
"The drama is
gutsy and explosive and Lawrence's original is grippingly
revitalised." |

This groundbreaking contemporary production of
“The Fox” drew on the sensuality of
DH Lawrence’s original novel together with the passionate music of
Janacek’s opera, “The Cunning Little Vixen”, to create a brooding
tale of desire, death and survival.
This production
toured Autumn 2005 to sell out audiences nationally and celebrated 75th
anniversary of DH Lawrence's death.
Jill and Ellie move to the country looking for a
quiet life running a small farm, only to discover that “You can’t
have free range chickens and a free range fox!”.
A young soldier, Henry returning
from Iraq, offers to help them, only to embark upon a dangerous game of
deception and betrayal, ending with tragic consequences.
“The Fox” was
dramatised by eminent Nottinghamshire playwright, Stephen Lowe, who also
recently received national acclaim for his play, “Old Big ‘Ead in The
Spirit of the Man”, commissioned by Nottingham Playhouse.
