This programme was commissioned by Jane O'Byrne for Amber Valley Health Authority in 2004 with the drama workshops conceived and delivered by Ava Hunt.  Since then three successful tours in primary schools throughout the Amber Valley area have been completed, being further developed by Ava with Sarah Bradnock in 2005/6.  2007 will see the programme extended into North Derbyshire. The programme has been fully evaluated by the Health Authority and has been delivered to over 500 year six young people demonstrating significant benefits for pupils in relation to positive attitudes towards their body image.

The programme consists of:

Teacher Training: Teachers attend an all day Inset Training Day, outlining the project and providing practical exercises that the children will engage with.

Drama Workshops: Two workshops using drama are delivered with one class at a time using exercises that create the opportunity for the group to reflect on how they feel about their body, creating healthy relationships, and self esteem exercises.

Lesson Plans:  Six lesson plans that are delivered by the class teacher after the workshop visits that explore aspects of healthy eating, fashion and identity.

Peer Education: The class then present a short presentation based on the drama workshops at Assembly to their parents and their peers.

Parents:  The workshops are supported by workshops for parents delivered by Barnados.
